James Bulger was just a few weeks shy of his third birthday when, on 12 February 1993, he wandered away from his mum Denise in a shopping mall in Bootle. Grainy images from a security camera showed him trustingly holding the hand of ten-year-old Jon Venables as they walked away. Venables and his friend Robert Thompson murdered James, in a crime that shocked the world.

In this haunting book, James' father Ralph describes how his world fell apart in the days that followed. In his darkest hours he drank to numb the pain, and the stress tore his marriage apart. He tells how he learned to cope with his grief, but the sorrow of James' death has never left him. He discusses the long legal battle to see justice for his son. Above all, he pays tribute to his son, an adorable, cheeky boy whose bright smile brought joy to his family's lives.

    Heartbreaking to read, I’ve absolutely no idea how this man managed to keep going after the evil that happened to his baby son, all the world cried for this beautiful boy and still care for his parents and family

    My son is the same age as what James would have been & I remember back how I felt at the time & how utterly heartbreaking it was but reading Ralph's life before during & after has opened My eyes to realise how horrific & terrible the suffering that never ends for the family of James & what they have had to go through with the judicial system who let them down badly . It was hard to read at times especially the parts of James injuries & the events surrounding it ... the utter heartbreak of it all but I am glad I read it as I truly now believe neither of those evil pair should be free & cannot be rehabilitated . God bless Ralph & Denise & the family my heart just breaks for You all & God bless beautiful little James up in heaven ... karma will visit those 2 evil ones one day in one form or another . All the doubters who think they can be rehabilitated need to read this book !!

    This is such a heartbreaking story. The story of little James will always stay with me, but seeing it from his parents point of view makes it all the more real of the cruelty and barbarity that little boy endured. I hope by writing the book, helped Ralph heal that little bit, although I doubt you will ever get over it.

    Heart rendering version of a fathers loss , grief and injustice towards his little boy James , this despicable act of sick , perverted , cruelty is as shocking now as it was 23 years ago , saddened deeply by Ralph's story , glad he allowed himself to enjoy some happiness in the end.     This book is what you would expect and more it to be. A heart wrenching account that only the parent or close relative of little James could describe. I have followed this case from the start and have read many materials but this one by far has been the most hard hitting factual based account.

    Emotional read from beginning to end. Still to this day I find it unbelievable how two ten year old boys could do this to an innocent baby boy. This book was very hard to read in places and very graphic. I can't begin to imagine the pain and anguish this poor family went through. I highly recommend everyone to read this book. I have the highest respect for Ralph Bulger and his family.. My thoughts are with u all. Buy this book!!!

    I have never read such a heartrending book. It had me in tears and left fear in my heart. I was only 8 years old at the time of James murder but I have never forgotten that TV image of him and that gorgeous smile. As hard as it was for me to read parts of this book I'm glad I did. Although it left me feeling heartbroken for the family. I have always had very strong angry feelings to the way the killers were treated and was appalled at their early release. It sickens me to think that they are out of prison and living life in society under new identities. It's just wrong. RIP James little angel never forgotten.

    I was only ten myself when I saw the picture of little James being walked away with the two a ten year old when I heard my parents talking that James was not alive anymore, the fear was there that it could happen to anyone including my little brothers and sisters.. Reading this book everything On that picture has changed.. it was jus a pic of two young lads who killed a little boy..but now its so much more..I felt the emotion of the family, I saw the evil of the two devils and I heard n felt the screams n fear of poor little James.. I believe with all my heart and soul that them two devils will get their cummuppance as time certainly does come round.. But not only them two devils I pray it comes to ALL the devils involved, the government, the judges, the parole people, EVERYONE who played a part in the disgusting vile justice system in this case!!! My prayers and love are with the family.
